Sunday Round-up for June 12, 2011
Here on MomVesting, you’ll find that along with investing our money, we often explore the topic of investing in self. Well, this Friday evening I spent half of my day punching holes in my magazines. I haven’t decided if this was a good investment of my time yet or not.
Most people who know me understand that I’m a bit of an organization nut. My magazines, however, do not seem to understand this concept. Some publications I only subscribe to online, but others work as a kind of reference for me that I like to keep on hand. Magazine holders cost too much for their actual value, in my opinion, so I figured out another option: three-ring binders!
I like being able to flip through multiple volumes as if they were just a part of one large book. The only question is whether the time investment was really worth the gain. So far, I would say yes, because the time I spent now will save me time later, when I actually need the magazines for reference.
What about you? After you read through the following posts in this week’s round-up, take a minute and think about your own time investments. Did they turn out to be worth it, or would you not waste your time if you could do it all over again?

Thanks for the mention Jessica!

It sounds like it would be worth your time, since you use them frequently. I think taking the time to organize is worth it, but it does require some level of upkeep.

I too have trouble throwing away my magazines (especially with my Money Sense subscription, because there is lots of useful info packed in one mag!).
I find that magazine holders can be quite cheap at the Dollarama/ $1 or $2 stores, I usually find them for $2.

Thank you so much for including my article in your round up, Jessica.

Young and Thrifty, I've checked, and I can't find any in my town for under $5 each. I wouldn't mind just spending a buck or two on them. For a while, I was using the boxes that my books came in, cut them to match a magazine holder, and then pasted fabric on the outside to match my office decor. They look pretty cute, but when I do research in them, I end up leaving the ones that I've marked lying out on my desk until I've finished my project. The clutter then drives me to near complete uselessness.
I did find some three ring binder magazine inserts on Amazon for only a few dollars though. Have you ever tried those? I would think the magazines would just slide off and down into the rings.
