Friday Round-Up: The Best in Personal Finance Blogs

By the looks of my internet reading this week, everyone’s Thanksgiving was successfully full of family, fun and turkey. Mine was also wonderfully fulfilling in so many ways (one of which included giving my new stretchy pants a workout to remember).

Beyond the actual day of gobble-gobble-goodness, I enjoyed a full week off of work. My sister and her husband came to town, and we all had a lot of fun, most of which centered around one board game or another. I’m proud to say that we all actually enjoyed the games this time, and no pieces were flung across the room in teen-like rage. Maybe we’ve matured. Or maybe not. We’ll let Mom settle that debate.

When my guests left, I got back to work, playing catch up once again. Gotta love that freelancing lifestyle! Here are the most fun and informative posts for the week:

  • Retire by 40 advises readers to Sell Your Losers Before 2011 Ends. Not a bad plan if you want to cash in on your tax credits for losses.
  • Looking to give homemade gifts this year? Well, check out Minting Nickels’ Crack in a Jar. Yes, you read that correctly. That’s all I’ll say; it’s a must-read.
  • Prairie Eco Thrifter takes a look at How to Save Money on Baby Items. She doles out lots of great tips for momma-to-be’s.
  • If you’re looking for a tear-jearker of a Christmas story, stop in to see Daily Money Shot’s post, The Year I Made a Difference. The story is beautiful and brings out the true meaning of the holiday season.
  • Laura at I’m Losing It Here poses a great question in her post, The Spending Devil: does resisting the urge to spend ever disappear? Check in with her to share your thoughts.
